Istead United Blue 2 v Eltham Lions United 1

What an action packed match from the weekend.

Eltham Lions Utd going into this league challenge unbeaten, and they were in fine form.

First half was very even if slightly us on the chasing foot, both ends had their shots and with no question in my mind the game could have easily been 2 or 3 goals in their favour if it weren't for Thomas playing the best game ever!!!

Solid hands from catching the ball in the air and down on the ground very quickly, what a performance.

At the other end Eltham's keeper wasn't troubled too much as we just couldn't hit the target, fantastic first half 0-0 and a very good scoreline from the performance of both sides - game on!!!,

Second half we got on the score sheet fairly early with a perfectly executed spot kick from Josh S after being brought down just inside the box by a late foot, 1-0 and it was still end to end and plenty of middle play as well.

We seemed to just have the upper hand in this half and started to play the better football, and was awarded a free kick about 23yds out, well, talk about a Beckham free kick !! this was a Mercer master, it couldn't have been any better placed, I even remember saying to the subs with me at the time theres a lovely gap to the outside of the wall that no one would get to and Josh found that spot, awesome goal, 2-0, again still an even game and Eltham's heads never went down, and from and uncleared corner they felt they were back in this as they managed find the net at close range, 2-1 and about 10 mins to go, tense ten mins as both sides were pushing, what an entertaining game with the final score 2-1 and leaving us still at the top of the league.

Istead United Blue 8 v Beacons FC 0

Yet another fantastic performance this weekend. A very large looking Beacon's team with only 10 men to play give us a good game at the start.

Their size meant the physical side of the game was going to be a challenge, but in true Istead Blue's fashion we took on the challenge with only 12 boys available and never give up to which the result proved this.

First half in blistering heat playing up hill see us have a penalty saved before we got 3 goals to our credit.

Keeping a clean sheet in the first half with Tom in form made Beacons a little more hungry for goal after the break and they started quite positive, attacking at regular intervals but all the attacks kept in control with the solid four at the back.

After goals 4 and 5 it was time to get Rohan some more match confidence time and quite an impressive start as well, playing some lovely balls through and coming very close to scoring himself.

The whole team was on a high at this point and everyone was trying to get on the score sheet by playing very deep in their half, something we have to be a little careful of when we play stronger teams!!!

Goals 5,6 and 7 see Josh M getting his hat trick and goal 8 to finish off the game was from a very tired looking David

Another strong performance lets keep going!!.

Istead United Blue 9 v Hayden Youth Black 2

What a fantastic start to the new season, 2011-2012 in Bexley B league and off to a flying victory over Hayden Youth Black.

After last week’s loss in a friendly it was time to wake up and play our neat game of football.

From the start we looked slightly more at ease on the ball and started to pass around the pitch fairly well.

Playing a 4-5-1 formation we were able to control the centre of the pitch and perform some great link ups on both sides of the pitch which see us frequently in the opponents half and pushing forward,

A few counter attacks mainly down the left side from Hayden but these were taken care of by our strong back four, any that got around them were taken care of by Hugh rapidly getting of his line to pick up the ball.

Going into half time we had put 2 in the net care of Jamie E and Callum but it still didn't look as if the game was totally ours,

Second half see Hugh out on pitch and Jamie D in goal, again we were attacking more with the advantage of playing down the incline.

Goal 3 was soon in from Josh M who was having a great game. Goal 4 from Callum, 4-0 down and you could see Hayden's frustration and some of their teams heads went down, we took the advantage and kept the pressure on.

Goals 5-6 came before Hayden had a great break down their right wing and took their chance about 20 yards out, which was perfectly struck and popped just above the reach of the keeper and in the back of the net.

This raised the game and they pushed hard and then got another through a defensive error we made just as the keeper put his hands on the ball.

Only 8 minutes to play and we carried on pushing, 2 more goals leaving the final score 9-2.

Fantastic performance from everyone great team spirit, let’s keep playing like this!!!!!
